Iquitos, the city in the Peruvian Amazon, is a place isolated from the rest of the country. No land route connects it with the other cities of Peru. Aggregates for use in construction consist only of low-modulus fineness sands. Coarse aggregates are only transported to the city by river, resulting in a high price. Sand is generally used in sand-cement concrete, which is prepared with only fine aggregate. The sand has a high value of specific surface and therefore a higher requirement of water and, in effect, also of cement. The objective of the thesis is to investigate the aggregate of the La Rinconada quarry located on the banks of the Nanay River near the Santa Clara populated center in the district of San Juan Bautista and the influence of the SikaPlast 740 plasticizer additive in the cement-sand concrete with this aggregate. The cement corresponds to TYPE I brand SOL. Three standard mixtures without additive were prepared with different water-cement ratios and three mixtures using the SikaPlast 740 additive. Three water-cement ratios were used with values of 0.92, 0.76 and 0.62 without additive and with additive. Then the mechanical properties of the obtained concretes were compared. The results of the properties of the aggregate showed a very low value of the fineness modulus of the sand, which was 0.91, therefore, in the mix designs, a very high water requirement was observed. Concrete with the SikaPlast 740 plasticizer additive showed a decrease in the amount of cement used 14.42% (1.37 bags), 13.70% (1.50 bags) and 7.14% (0.94 bags) for ratios 0.92, 0.76 and 0.62, respectively. Although the amount of cement and mixing water was reduced, the compressive strength at 28 days was affected in the cases of water-cement ratios of 0.92 and 0.76, decreasing by 17.86% and 13.68%. In the case of 0.62 there was an increase in resistance at 8.10%.
