Introduction: Family functionality is crucial for adolescents' behavior towards alcohol consumption. Families with warm relationships and good communication tend to have adolescents with lower alcohol consumption. Conflictive or lack of support family environments increase the risk of alcohol consumption among young people. It is important to understand this relationship to implement effective interventions and preventive policies. Objective: Determine the relationship between family functionality and alcohol consumption in adolescents from an educational institution in the district of Urcos, Cusco – 2024. Material and methods: The study method was quantitative, descriptive correlational, nonexperimental and cross-sectional design. The sample was made up of 200 students from the fourth and fifth grade of secondary school from the Educational Institution of the Urcos district, Cusco. Results: Significant negative correlations were observed between family functionality and various measures related to alcohol consumption: alcohol risk (rho = -0.211, p = 0.001), dependence symptoms (r = -0.300, p < 0.01), consumption harmfulness of alcohol (r = 0.242, p < 0.01), and alcohol consumption in adolescents (r = -0.264, p < 0.01). Conclusions: Family functionality shows a significant negative correlation with alcohol consumption and dependence among adolescents in Urcos, Cusco, suggesting that strengthening family relationships is crucial to reduce these risk behaviors.
