Introduction: Diabetes is a systemic metabolic disease, considered as a global epidemic that affects more than 420 million people . 4% of diabetic peruvians develop diabetic foot . A diabetic patient has a 40 times higher risk of amputation as part of his treatment , so its important to know the risk factors for amputation in these patients. Objective: Determine the risk factors for diabetic foot amputation in patients at the Antonio Lorena Hospital and the Regional Hospital of Cusco, 2022-2023. Materials and Method: Analytical case-control study with an correlational design. A data collection form filled out in interviews with 158 patients with diabetic foot at the Antonio Lorena and Regional hospitals of Cusco, 2022-2023, 79 cases and 79 controls, was used. Patients with major or minor amputation of diabetic foot, over 18 years of age, who agreed to participate in the study and with complete laboratory data were considered as cases, and patients with non-amputee diabetic foot, of legal age, who agreed to be part of the study and with complete laboratories were called controls. Univariate, bivariate and binary logistic regression analyzes were used to establish relationships between the variables. Results: Risk factors for diabetic foot amputation were prolonged disease time (p=0.004, OR=6.474, IC95% [1.796-23.336]), previous amputation (p=0.005, OR=8.946, IC95% [1.937-41.315]), peripheral arterial disease (p=0.029, OR=4.599, IC95% [1.16818.114]), poor glycemic control (p=0.047, OR=3.092, IC95% [1.017-9.400]) and hypertension (p=0.003, OR=6.641, IC95% [1.905-23.144]). Conclusions: Risk factors were prolonged disease time, previous amputation, peripheral arterial disease, poor glycemic control and hypertension.
