The objective of the research was to determine the degree of relationship between critical thinking and the level of research competencies in first cycle students of the Professional School of Civil Engineering of the Andean University of Cusco (UAC) in 2020. The methodology applied was descriptive - correlational scope, the population was made up of students from the first cycles of the school, the sample was probabilistic, the technique was the survey and as an instrument the questionnaire. Arriving at the following results: Critical thinking in UAC students is regular; As evidenced, 54.4% of students always respect when their classmate gives their opinion; In 45.1%, students analyze the information they seek for their tasks; In 52.8% of students mention some of their ideas in a paper; 38.5% of students explain how they did their tasks; 43.6% of students look for reliable sources for their tasks and 43.6% of students verify the ideas of the texts they read and make sure they are true. While the level of research skills is also regular, as evidenced by the fact that 42.6% of the students do know the study techniques; 33.8% of students have never known the SPSS statistical software and how it is applied; In 49.7%, students are always punctual when meeting in investigative groups; 42.1% of students almost always respect APA standards in their research study; 45.6% of students respect the research outline and 32.8% sometimes present research evidence using Excel. Concluding that critical thinking is significantly related to the level of research skills in students in the first cycles of civil engineering at the UAC, year 2020 (p<0.05).
