Diabetic Ketoacidosis is one of the most frequent acute complications of Diabetes Mellitus, either type 1 or 2. This research aimed to explain the influence of clinical characteristics and precipitants on the mortality of patients with diabetic ketoacidosis attending the service. Emergency Hospital Regional Loreto 2009- 2019. The research was explanatory, with documentary, retrospective, transectional, and multivariate design. The sample was 90 patients diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis who went to the emergency service of the Regional Hospital of Loreto during the years 2009-2019. The data collection process was through the document review technique and the registration matrix instrument, validated by expert judgment. The results show that the mortality rate of patients with diabetic ketoacidosis was 10%, as well; a statistically significant association was found between the clinical characteristics: extreme ages of children (<12 years) and elderly (> 60 years); comorbidities such as Arterial Hypertension and Chronic Kidney Disease; with mortality from Diabetic Ketoacidosis (p-value <0.05). Regarding precipitating factors, there is a statistically significant association of mortality from Diabetic Ketoacidosis with infectious diseases such as Urinary Tract Infection, Pneumonia Acquired in the Community, Acute Infectious Gastroenteritis, Pneumonia Acquired in the Community plus Skin and Soft Tissue Infection; non-infectious diseases such as Alcoholism and Stroke; Diabetes Mellitus debut and treatment abandonment (p-value <0.05); However, the clinical characteristics and precipitating factors were not causes of mortality in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis who attended the emergency service of the Regional Hospital of Loreto between 2009 and 2019.
