This research has been developed with the purpose of establishing the relationship between emotional intelligence and study habits in students of a university. To achieve this work, the methodological approach contemplated a quantitative approach, under a non- experimental design whose cut was transversal, correlational level and basic type. The study population was made up of 120 students belonging to the II semester, I cycle of the Faculty of Law of the Technological University of Peru - 2018; and the sample was composed of 92 students; whose sampling was simple random probabilistic. On the other hand, the techniques and instruments used in this investigation were the survey and the questionnaires. The questionnaire that assesses emotional intelligence is a short version EQI-C adapted by Magallanes in 2014 and that assesses the intrapersonal, interpersonal, stress management and adaptation dimensions. Similarly, the second questionnaire is the inventory of Wrenn's study habits of 2012 and which measures habits based on their dimensions: techniques for reading and taking notes, concentration habits, time distribution and social relationships; and general work habits and attitudes. Regarding the main results at the descriptive level, it has been found that the predominant levels in both study variables were of adequate level. And, on the other hand, with respect to the main results of inferential level it has been found that the results of the general hypothesis test, the p value = 0.000 (p <0.05) and Pearson's R was equal to 0.708; and from these findings, it has been concluded that there is a direct and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and study habits.
