ABSTRACT This research was conducted in the Laredo district of Trujillo province, with the objective of evaluating the effect of the addition of a natural growth promoter on the productive response of Cavia porcellus (guinea pigs) improved in the growth - finishing stage, for which were used 72 weaned guinea pigs (14 +/- 2 days) of both sexes distributed in a completely randomized block design. The treatments were: T0: ration with inclusion of APC (50g of zinc bacitracin/100 kg), T1: ration with inclusion of natural growth promoter (50g/100kg), T2: ration with inclusion of natural growth promoter (30g/100kg). Regarding the final weights, the T1 obtained an average of 1144,5 g, the T2 of 1085,8 g, both results are statistically equal but higher than the T0 that was 1020,4 g, presenting statistically significant differences (P<0,05). For the weight increase, T1 presented 841,5 g and T2 with 799,6 g; being statistically equal but superior to the T0 with 698,6 g presenting highly significant statistical differences (P<0,01). T1 presented the highest food intake (10076,7 g) after T0 (8561,7 g) and T2 (8431,7 g) without statistical differences. In terms of feed conversion, T1 presented 3,1, then T2 with 3,2 and T0 with 3,3 without statistical differences. T2 had the highest mortality rate (16,7%) followed by T0 (8,3%) and T1 (0%) without statistical differences. The highest carcass performance was achieved by T1 (71,5%), then by T2 (70,2%) and T0 (70%) without statistical differences. The best productive efficiency index was presented in the following order 30162,7; 23125,9 and 21568 for T1, T2 and T0 respectively and the best benefit-cost ratio was 2,5 for T1, then 2,07 and 1,97 for T0 and T2. It is concluded that the inclusion of 50g/100 kg of natural growth promoter (without APC) had the best effect on the productive performance of guinea pigs in the growth - fattening stage.
