Abstract: La megafitodiversidad del Perú se refleja en aproximadamente 25,000 especies de flora, las cuales han sustentado, sustentan y seguirán sustentando las necesidades más esenciales del ser humano, tanto en el presente como en el futuro. En este contexto, es crucial destacar la importancia de la flora nativa, especialmente los granos, como fuentes significativas de macronutrientes, vitaminas, minerales y proteínas. Además, su contenido en polifenoles y antocianinas las convierte en especies ideales para garantizar la seguridad alimentaria. La presente investigación se centró en la fitogeografía y etnobotánica de los parientes silvestres peruanos de la “quinua” y la “kiwicha”. Para ello, se realizó una revisión crítica de bibliografía especializada, que incluyó artículos científicos, libros, tesis y trabajos de investigación, complementada con información obtenida de dos herbarios nacionales. Esta metodología permitió recopilar datos sobre la familia, nombres científicos y vulgares, hábito, distribución altitudinal y departamental, épocas de floración y fructificación, caracteres morfológicos y formas de consumo de los parientes silvestres de la “quinua” y la “kiwicha”.
Se concluye que hay 11 parientes silvestres de la "kiwicha" dentro del género Amaranthus, así como 7 parientes silvestres de la "quinua" dentro del género Chenopodium, las cuales poseen un potencial significativo para mejorar estas especies. Esto contribuye a la seguridad alimentaria y la sostenibilidad en el contexto de los actuales cambios climáticos y socioeconómicos.

In this context, it is crucial to highlight the importance of native flora, especially grains, as significant sources of macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, and proteins. Additionally, their content of polyphenols and anthocyanins makes them ideal species to ensure food security. This research focused on the phytogeography and ethnobotany of the wild relatives of quinoa and kiwicha in Peru. A critical review of specialized bibliography was conducted, including scientific articles, books, theses, and research papers, supplemented with information obtained from two national herbaria. This methodology allowed for the collection of data on the family, scientific and common names, habits, altitudinal and departmental distribution, flowering and fruiting times, morphological characteristics, and consumption forms of the wild relatives of quinoa and kiwicha. It is concluded that there are 11 wild relatives of "kiwicha" within the genus Amaranthus, and 7 wild relatives of "quinoa" within the genus Chenopodium, which have significant potential for enhancing these species. This contributes to food security and sustainability in the context of current climate and socioeconomic changes.
