ABSTRACT The amount of minerals in Cavia porcellus from different regions of Peru was determined, 2023. Twelve specimens from three regions were used: coast (Trujillo - La Libertad); highlands (San Ignacio - Cajamarca); and jungle (Bagua Chica - Amazonas); inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were applied. It was found that Cavia porcellus samples from the highlands region presented higher concentrations of the following minerals: total calcium in muscle samples (12.63 mg CaO/100 g), total iron in blood samples (341.83 mg/100 g), total phosphorus and total potassium in liver samples (261.40 mg P2O5/100 g and 340.50 mg K2O5/100 g). And in the liver samples of Cavia porcellus from the jungle region presented high concentration of total magnesium and total zinc (23.30 mg MgO/100 g and 4.80 mg/100 g). In conclusion, in the Cavia porcellus samples from the highland region, higher concentrations of total calcium (CaO) in the muscle, total iron in the blood samples, total phosphorus (P2O5) and total potassium (K2O5) in the liver samples were found. And the liver samples of Cavia porcellus from the jungle region present the highest concentration of total magnesium (MgO) and total zinc.
