ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to determine the characteristics of the use of drug redosings for inpatients in the pediatric and neonatology services of a level III-1 public hospital in Trujillo during the year 2023. We analyzed all the prescriptions with indications for drug redosing and the medical records of the inpatients to whom they were prescribed. Data were collected on the prescribed redosed drug, indications, pharmaceutical form, pharmacological group, storage and stability conditions, therapeutic results, adverse effects, and costs. The data were processed and the results were subjected to ANOVA statistical analysis and inferential correlation parameters. The drugs with the highest redosing were captopril with 25,56 %, hydrochlorothiazide with 15,91 %, and spironolactone with 15,61 %. The pharmacological groups of medications that were redosed the most were diuretics with 45,38 %, followed by antihypertensives with 34,19 % and anticonvulsants/ antiepileptics with 5,54 %. The percentage of redosed medications found inside and outside the PNUME were 96,61 % and 3,39 % respectively. The most frequent indications for redosings were: ICC with 13,11 %, ICC + congenital heart disease with 11,48 %, congenital heart disease and ICC + BPD both with 6,56 %. Of a total of 974 medication redosings, 84,70 % corresponded to the pharmaceutical form of sachet, 14,07 % to syrup and 1,23 % to solution. There is a tendency to decrease the redosing form in sachets and increase the solutions, but they weren't significant (p>0,05), however, there is a trend to increase the syrup redosage form which was significant. (p<0,05). The percentage of redosings for inpatients that required storage at room temperature was 84,7 % and in refrigeration conditions between 2-8 °C was 15,30 %, while for outpatients, 56,93 % required be storage at room temperature and 43,07 % in refrigeration conditions between 2-8 °C. In inpatients (64,89 %), the conditions of stability, temperature, light and humidity of the redosings are present; while, in outpatients (35,11 %) there is no information on the presence of these conditions. Therapeutic success was achieved in 52,46 % of patients, therapeutic failure in 1,69 %; 6,56 % died and 11,48 % were transferred. Adverse effects occurred in 32,79 % of patients, 39,34 % didn't present and no information was found in 27,87 % of patients. The lowest and highest total costs of redosing drugs in pharmaceutical form sachet were S/ 0,17 and S/ 12,00; in pharmaceutical form syrup were S/ 1,65 and S/ 34,99; and in pharmaceutical form solution were S/ 3,11 and S/ 6,33 respectively.
