Abstract The study "Audiovisual stories as a pedagogical strategy to improve oral comprehension in 5-year-old boys and girls in a virtual modality" focuses on promoting comprehension in 5-year-old children through the use of audiovisual stories in an initial educational institution in the district from Anta. During the childhood stage, it is crucial to stimulate interest in reading and writing, since at 5 years old, children tend to prefer more tangible activities instead of texts. To address this issue, strategies such as audiovisual stories are proposed. This qualitative research explores children's perceptions of audiovisual stories and how these influence their understanding. The results suggest that the inclusion of audiovisual stories in teaching awakens children's interest in reading and motivates them to understand texts. Given that distance education lacks physical contact with teachers, audiovisual stories, being attractive and educational, are an effective tool to introduce children to reading and writing, including stories from their own communities. The research also presents a proposal for audiovisual stories adapted to the social and cultural context of a rural community of Anta. Furthermore, it highlights that the participation of parents or guardians is crucial for the development of learning sessions in children.
