This work seeks to determine the effectiveness of source controls, administrative controls, and worker controls to mitigate exposure to respirable dust in workers who perform the activity of polishing stairs in an underground metro station. For the development of this work, the industrial hygiene cycle is taken as a reference, which proposes a cyclical strategy that contributes to continuous improvement. The steps followed to implement the controls were the following: Anticipation, identification, evaluation and control. The present study shows that, to mitigate exposure to respirable dust in the task of polishing stairs, it was necessary to implement source controls, administrative controls and controls on the worker, through the use of respiratory protection. Although it is evident that the controls implemented at the source contributed significantly to the mitigation of the generation of particulate matter, it was concluded that only a reduction in occupational exposure to respirable dust was obtained to a low risk level, complementing the three types of controls: engineering at the source, administrative and personal protective equipment
