The objective of this work is to show how the implementation of the Lean Six Sigma methodology contributed to the achievement of the production objectives of the Marcona Mine Expansion or New Crushing and T ransfer System. Mention is made of the operational problems that were encountered and the path taken to achieve operational improvements that allowed meeting this goal. We try to demonstrate that by applying a recognized management methodology, in this case Lean Six Sigma, we can achieve substantial improvements that affect production, productivity and lower costs, allowing us to see what tools we can use and if these are really useful to improve our processes, we try to demonstrate that the management of productivity constraints, allow significant increases in production indicators in a mine or plant. Previous work has been done using the methodology in cost reduction, productivity increases in mining focused on operating downtime, poor operating practices, improvements in mine planning and mine maintenance. The theory teaches us that in any production or service activity there are opportunities for improvement related to identify and eliminate or reduce waste, also work is done allowing some variability and thus it is also possible to find overloading of production systems. Having reviewed the Lean Six Sigma theory, it was found that its application to the reality of the Marcona operation allowed us the opportunity to implement it, and thus achieve significant improvements focusing on the three productivity constraints.
