This research presents an improvement in the management of engineering studies for medium-sized mining projects, specifically geotechnical studies. Geotechnical studies are short-term and highly specialized, they generate contributions to the client, society and consultants in the development of projects. These studies can be optimized by developing a management model. In this way, an opportunity for improvement was identified, setting the objectives and hypotheses. With this information, a methodological design was developed that identifies the population, the size of the sample, and develops a qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis was carried out through eight (8) interviews with experts with guiding questions. From this analysis, the main characteristics and activities of the proposed management model were obtained, as well as the considerations that must be tended for a correct definition of the scope of the services and the phases of which the proposed management model is formed. For the quantitative analysis, a survey with closed questions was developed in order to adjust the model. This survey considered the information obtained in the qualitative analysis. The professionals who participated in the survey were eighty-four (84), of which 79% were civil and geological engineers, and 21% belonged to other directly related professions (oil, mining, geophysics, materials, etc.). Respondents consider that the use of a management model for the development of geotechnical studies for medium-sized mining projects is important or very important. The management model proposed in the research considers the phases: terms of reference, planning, field, laboratory, cabinet, observations, and control of execution and deliverables. These phases allow continuous interaction with the client and its approval, generating value in the development of geotechnical studies.
