In the research, a maintenance management design based on the ISO 14224 standard was carried out to improve the collection of data that are analyzed in the reliability, the methodology was developed in a critical vehicle unit of the company for the determination of potential failures and the respective failure modes. The research conducted is qualitative in approach because it does not employ statistical methods to test the hypothesis, it resorts to the use of categories and is based on an international standard that provides benefits in data collection and in the structure of information for proper maintenance management, which was contextualized for a vehicle fleet company. The research also analyzed the factors of maintenance management that affect the collection of reliability data and make it difficult to control the maintenance of the units, a coding of vehicle units was carried out according to a significant identification system, the indicators of mean time between failures, mean repair time and mechanical availability were determined for a base period of 13 months and finally, the potential failures with the greatest impact on the systems and components of the critical vehicle unit were determined. From the failure analysis carried out, the equipment taxonomy and the equipment limits, it was corroborated that the maintenance management design has a positive influence on the maintenance area.
