Education is a key factor that influences the present and future human capital of individuals; however, the low levels of educational performance achieved by primary school children in Peru are concerning. This research is carried out with the purpose of determining the effect of parent's illnesses on the educational outcomes of their children, specifically those at the elementary level in Peru. The present study uses the Young Lives Study database corresponding to the years 2006 and 2009, which contains information on the individual characteristics of children, as well as their households. The methodological approach, Fixed Effects, will be used based on the studies of Bratti and Mendola (2014), Alam (2015), Le and Nguyen (2017) and Lim (2020) which analyze the impact of parental illness or death on children's educational outcomes. Additionally, the findings of Dhanaraj (2016), Le and Nguyen (2017), Aaskoven et al. (2022) and Wongmonta (2023) show that the parents' illness does affect the educational outcome of primary school-age children. This is due to the greater restrictions parents face in meeting their children's educational expenses, and the reduced time they can dedicate to them. Likewise, boys and girls with sick parents tend to spend more time on household chores.
