ABSTRACT Process optimization is aimed at helping the company to redesign its business processes with the aim of reducing costs and improving efficiency, thus obtaining the greatest possible benefit by using the appropriate improvement tools, the use of which is essential to achieve effective results. A defective process generates cost overruns and if it is a “Core“ process, it loses competitiveness and eventually affects profitability. The EXCEL® worksheet (Microsoft Corporation) through the SOLVER plug-in allows solving Process Optimization problems based on the mathematical model of linear programming called SIMPLEX and is used as a tool to solve problems of optimization of the loading-hauling cycle in The Lagunas Norte Mine. The objectives of this thesis are the application of linear programming techniques through SOLVER ® in order to assure optimum performance of the ore loading-hauling cycle which means a more dynamic and productive flow of ore towards the crushing systems. Our hypothesis to optimize the process of the ore loading-hauling in the Lagunas Norte Mine applying the software SOLVER® has been confirmed by the results obtained and the most important conclusions are: Significant improvements and operating savings of the order of $18,533.00 were achieved in the ore loading-hauling processes of the Lagunas Norte mine, which means 12,35% of the whole operating costs. The use of SOLVER was verified as a technological and useful tool when modeling and optimizing mining processes. SOLVER is part of a series of commands sometimes called analysis tools that can find an optimal (minimum or maximum) value for a formula in a cell, called the target cell, subject to restrictions or limitations on the values of other formula cells in a spreadsheet.
