The objective of this work is to analyze the absence of external resident doctors in the scheduled vacancies at Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño San Borja. To this end, the medical rotation procedure was reviewed, identifying the key elements of the problem, such as: delay in responses to the rotation request, lack of a traceable record of the admission process, lack of information on available vacancies and the lack of confirmation of attendance. A qualitative methodology was used, applying root-cause identification tools, such as the Ishikawa diagram, why? method, review of research articles and information provided by the institution. In the evaluation of the solution alternatives, the multicriteria matrix was used, reaching the conclusion that it would be necessary to develop a technological solution that follows the traceability of the medical residency admission process from the entry of application to the result. Finally, it is recommended to expand the research, to see the feasibility of applying this solution to other teaching centers that present the same problem and, in this way, can contribute to reducing the lack of health personnel at the national level.
