The services sector has grown 4.3% in 2022 compared to the previous year, mainly in restaurants and accommodations. This growth is due to the fact that after the pandemic, the curfew was reduced and the forums were expanded (BCRP, 2022). Within the services sector, we find the restaurants subsector, which in 2022 presented a variation of 41.63% in terms of its monthly production compared to the same period of the immediately previous year. This is due to the good performance of the restaurant activity, beverage service, food supply for contractors and food concessionaires (INEI, 2022). In this research work, a small company belonging to the service sector is taken as the object of study, which presents absenteeism problems causing poor work performance, increased costs due to overtime, replacement of personnel, loss of clients and low scope of objectives. The problem addressed in the research is the high rate of absenteeism from work, which is found within the personnel development process, and the model proposed to reduce this rate of absenteeism is focused on the engagement culture and internal communication tools. To demonstrate that the proposed model effectively reduces the rate of absenteeism within the company, a pilot test was carried out to then compare the scenarios before and after the implementation of the proposed model. Finally, we can determine that the human resources management model focused on engagement culture and internal communication tools generate significant improvements for a small or medium-sized company that needs to reduce its absenteeism rate at a low cost.
