One of the problems in transportation is traffic congestion, which is a potential issue in developing countries. This research proposes geometric redesign and traffic signal optimization to reduce the queue length generated by motorcycle taxis. Therefore, the intersection of Eduardo de Habich Avenue with Darío Valdizan Street is evaluated. Field visits determined that there is a higher concentration of vehicles with a considerable number of motorcycle taxis, which generates conflicts, delays, and queue lengths for users of this intersection. It is worth noting that the geometry of this intersection has deficiencies. With this data, a model of the current state and its proposed solution was developed using VISSIM 9.0 software. This initial model will be calibrated and validated using driver behavior parameters from the vehicle tracking model, speed calculation, and travel time within the study area. To do this, it is necessary to identify the main microsimulation tools and identify the most representative patterns in the models, whose data are entered based on the discovered characteristics, and the results obtained are statistically analyzed (null hypothesis). Finally, the results of the proposed solution show a reduction of 10.8% in queue length and a 31.73% reduction in vehicle delays. Additionally, signal optimization using the Synchro program reduced the signal cycle to 42 seconds. Based on these results, recommendations can be made for geometric redesign, signal optimization at intersections, and statistical evaluation of their efficiency.
