In recent years, the plastic sector industry has had significant growth due to an increase in sales in areas such as construction and medicine. This sector accounts for 3.5% of the industrial GDP, generating around 250,000 jobs, of which 60,000 are direct, and is therefore considered the second industrial process with the highest production. On the other hand, recent research shows that companies dedicated to the plastic sector are operating with low levels of production capacity (71.5%), which is caused by different factors that affect the availability of machines (72%), unproductive times and unscheduled stops in the production areas they operate. This problem results in orders not being fulfilled and delays in product delivery times. Consequently, this generates inconvenience and dissatisfaction and in some cases loss of customers. In addition, there are high manufacturing costs due to the amount of rework generated. Therefore, the objective is to solve the problem identified through a proposal for a maintenance management model based on the application of Lean Manufacturing, which integrates the tools of SMED, TPM, 5S and SLP. The model was validated in a company dedicated to the injection and blow molding of plastic containers, which has problems of low availability of equipment, with the application of the proposed model it was possible to improve the availability of the equipment of 72% to 90%. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that by increasing the availability of machines, better OEE values can be obtained, as a result, production capacity in companies in the plastic sector increases.
