In today's economy, companies dedicated to metalworking play a vital role in the country's economy. As of February 2024, this industry represented 11.4% of the Gross Added Value (GVA) of the manufacturing industry (73,510 million soles) and 1.5% of the national GDP (567,390 million soles). Likewise, the metalworking business network concentrates 64,949 formal companies, of which 99.5% are MSEs and 0.5% are medium and large companies. According to their presence in the regions, 52.1% of the metalworking companies were concentrated in Lima and 6.9% in Arequipa. Of this 99.5%, MSEs pose significant challenges that can affect the quality of the final product. In the present case, a company that has 4 production lines for pinions (straight and helical), worm screws and bevel gears faces production challenges due to low availability of equipment. To this end, the implementation of 5'S, SMED and TPM tools is presented as a solution to optimize internal management and plant workflow, managing to stand out in a competitive market. Reasons for low availability of the production process were identified: unplanned downtime and unplanned interruptions. In the first reason, there are equipment breakdowns and delays due to the location of materials; and in the second, stops for Setup. Where, after making improvements through the SMED, 5S and TPM tools, the result was an increase in availability from 85.80% to 93.83%. Likewise, the importance of maintaining a constant focus on the continuous improvement of operational processes and adaptation to market and customer demands is highlighted to guarantee the sustainability of these achievements.
