Women representation in soap operas is associated with stereotypes that have been changing over time; however, the content changes and permanences have not been compared to those in audience perception. Therefore, soap operas whose central theme is very relevant in the social context have not been analyzted neither. In this context, the present study purpose is investigating changes and permanence in the evolution of female characters and female audience of Lima regarding the representation of sexual assaults in peruvian soap operas. In this sense, discussions about women representation in soap operas and character construction are reopened. In order to achieve this, a qualitative study focused on content analysis and interviews with peruvian women who have seen the soap operas “En la piel de Alicia” or “Leonela, muriendo de amor” is proposed. Among the main conclusions, it was found that aggression-clothing link is maintained, which is not recognized by the audience. On the other hand, it was found progress in the evolution of content and audience perception in: the presence of sexualization, the margins of autonomy, the impact of aggression on personal development, objectives/goals and their professional development arcs, the importance of romantic relationships, and treatment towards the female character. Finally, despite everything mentioned, the older women are the ones who show the most criticism, demanding changes, meanwhile the young women naturalize the representations.
