In Peru, a high rate of vehicular flow is recorded, which is reflected in the vehicular congestion that exists on the streets and avenues of the country, a situation that harms the integrity of pedestrians, which is why this study analyzes the current pedestrian conditions and the difficulties in crossing a congested avenue in the city of Lima. Reason why the intersection of Av. Universitaria with Av. Perú was taken as a sample of the population with the objective of developing a proposal that improves accessibility and pedestrian safety at a high traffic flow intersection in Lima, through the redesign of road infrastructure. In the research, a traffic study is carried out in which data is collected, through the use of a drone, on different days of the week, taking into account the rush hour and identification of the traffic light cycle at the intersection crossing. During the study, the vehicular flows that enter the intersection from all its branches are taken as a basis. The next step is to represent the current state in a calibrated and validated micro simulation model, taking into account the time it starts and the time it lasts. Then a road infrastructure design proposal was prepared, changing the traffic light timing so that pedestrians can cross safely during dead times. Finally, a comparison is made between the current state and the calibrated and validated road infrastructure design proposal. Finally, it was possible to obtain an improvement in the pedestrian traffic service at the intersection with the proposal to change road infrastructure, which was modeled and validated with the help of the VISSIM program. This proposal reduces pedestrian insecurity and the difficulty that exists for pedestrians to cross a busy avenue.
