The metalworking industry is a fundamental pillar in the economic development of a country, since it is responsible for supplying materials to companies in different sectors. Therefore, it must be expected that the level of production is adequate to meet the demands of the market. However, SMEs in the sector have low efficiency in their production lines, due to the poor performance of the machinery and, in order to fulfill their orders, they choose to outsource the production that is missing. Possible causes of low production efficiency include machine downtime, defective products and design errors. Production efficiency in the metalworking sector for SMEs is 75.8% and the company under study, 70.2%, which generates a technical gap of 5.6%. The importance of the problem lies in optimizing the production process by increasing the efficiency of the equipment. To this end, this research project focuses on providing a solution through the implementation of Lean techniques such as SMED and TPM with the pillars of autonomous and planned maintenance. This research is proposed in order to improve both the level of production and competitiveness of the case study. Finally, the results obtained from the implementation of the improvements were the reduction of preparation times in the milling machine and lathe by approximately 25% and the increase in efficiency by 5.75%.
