Introduction: The pandemic that began in 2020 proved to be an unprecedented event, capable of destabilizing nations with no apparent effective response. It is in this context that the mental health is of vital importance in health workers. Among the main problems are burnout syndrome and generalized anxiety disorder. Under this argumentative thread, it was imperative to study the mental health of health personnel who faced the advance of the pandemic in our country day by day. Objectives: To assess whether there is an association between direct contact with SARS-CoV-2 + patients and the presence of Burnout Syndrome or generalized anxiety symptoms in health personnel at the Guillermo Díaz de la Vega-Abancay-Apurímac Regional Hospital. Methods: Cross-sectional and analytical observational study. The study population was doctors, nurses, obstetricians, and healthcare personnel in the period 2020-2021. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate crude and adjusted analysis models were used. Results: The age between 40-60 years (RP 0.81 p = 0.043) and working as a nurse (RP 1.32 p = 0.05) were significant associations regarding the presence of Burnout syndrome, Furthermore, working in the non-COVID area was a factor that decreased the probability of suffering (PR 0.76 p = 0.039) while working in both areas was exhibited as a factor that increased the probability (PR 2.11 p = 0.011). Living with a family (PR 0.64 p = 0.041) and living only with a partner (PR 0.43 p = 0.024) were statistically significant when associated with the presence of generalized anxiety symptoms. Conclusions: There is no association between direct contact with SARS-CoV-2 + patients and Burnout Syndrome (p = 0.207) or with generalized anxiety disorder (p = 0.426). The prevalence of exposure to SARS-Cov-2 (+) patients was almost 90% regardless of the area where the health personnel worked. Working in a non-COVID area reduces the probability of the appearance of burnout syndrome compared to those personnel who work in the COVID area (p = 0.039), in contrast, working in both areas increases the probability of the appearance of this syndrome (p = 0.011).
