The high competition in the market of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) encourages them to raise their level of service through multiples strategies, the most frequent being the acquisition of large amounts of inventories, which directly affects their ability to assume the payment of their liabilities. Usually, this leads to corporate bankruptcy, because a large part of the organization’s efficiency and profitability depends on the performance of its warehouses and its correct management. To address the problem of high inventory levels in the company, the proposed model consists of an Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) system and the Lean Warehouse methodology, in order to reduce the level of stock in the warehouse and increasing the inventory turnover index that currently equals 3.6, a value significantly lower than the industry ratio equivalent to 6.9. Lastly, the results of the implementation are the reduction of stock stored in the warehouse by 52% and 28% for two critical products, narrowing the lost sales from two to zero and an increase in profitability. Furthermore, among the main benefits observed, it offers greater employment opportunities, increases the warehouse productivity and improves resource management.
