Objective: To evaluate the nutritional profile of processed foods and beverages advertised during child protection hours in two Peruvian television channels with the highest audience ratings. Methods: In this exploratory observational cross-sectional study 448 hours of television content were recorded between January and February 2021. The frequency, transmission time and length of the food and beverage advertisements were registered. These were categorized according to the NOVA system and the Nutrient Profile Model. Critical nutrient values in 100 g or ml of processed and ultra-processed foods and beverages were determined. The number of products that exceeded the technical parameters was established. Results: A total of 9,411 advertisements were broadcast. 24.6% belonged to food and beverages, of which 89.1% were processed and ultra-processed. The time frame between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. (33.9%) had the most advertising. The beverages (41.7%) and confectionery (17.8%) categories had the most ads. Salty snacks and sweet cookies had the highest energy (M = 533.3 kcal) and sugar (M = 40.0 g) content respectively, and margarine for saturated fats (M = 32.1 g) and sodium (M = 1357.1 mg). According to the initial thresholds 46.9% of foods would exceed at least one technical parameter and 88.4% would do so with the more restrictive ones. Conclusions: The majority of foods and beverages advertised on Peruvian television were processed and ultra-processed, many of which exceed the technical parameters of critical nutrients.
