Background: Nutritional apps are considered tools used by all types of populations with a positive impact on health at a nutritional level. Objective: To explore the reasons for the use of nutritional apps by students of a private university in Lima-Peru. Methodology: It is a qualitative study with phenomenological design, using the technique of semi-structured interviews. The sample consisted of 28 participants, 14 males and 14 females, the sampling was by snowball. This study was conducted one month after the beginning of the COVID 19 pandemic. Results: It was found that the most used application by the studied population is MyFitnessPal followed by Yazio, FatSecret and 8Fit. In addition, users used these apps with the motivation to lose or maintain weight as well as gain muscle mass among the most outstanding comments, among the most outstanding features were mentioned calorie counting and food search within the apps. Conclusions: For most of the university students interviewed, the main reason for using nutritional apps is weight reduction, while for the minority it was to maintain or gain weight and within this group for some men it was to gain muscle mass.
