In the construction sector in Peru and over the world, making a bad decision in choosing a subcontractor leads to a series of critical problems in a project and since there is no standard procedure to manage the ideal selection of subcontractors, it becomes more and more difficult to guarantee the committed deadlines, the foreseen costs and scopes entrusted by the client. Today, there are many multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) methods that are useful for structuring the decision-making process. These methods provide the basis for consistent, transparent and justified decision making. Therefore, this research aims to improve the selection process of subcontractors through the implementation of the Choosing By Advantages (CBA) methodology, which is characterized mainly by choosing for the performance of the advantages of subcontractors in that case. To do this, we will analyze a project within the average range of an SME, both in billing and in covered area, with items defined with the Pareto method and extracted from interviews with a group of key professionals to subsequently apply the CBA methodology and compare the corresponding improvements. To obtain subcontractors under the CBA methodology, 7 key steps will be followed. First, the alternatives will be identified, for which a minimum of 3 are required. Second, the factors will be defined using the Pareto method. Third, the criteria will be defined using a matrix with relevance criteria for each item. Fourth, we develop the attributes for each alternative using a matrix with relevance criteria for each item. Fifth, you identify the least preferred attribute for each factor and then decide the attribute advantage of each alternative relative to the least preferred. Sixth, the decision is made about the importance of the advantages. Finally, the information resulting from the application of the CBA methodology when evaluating costs will be analyzed.
