Objective: To genotype RSV type A in nasopharyngeal samples from pediatric hospitalized patients with the clinical diagnosis of acute respiratory infection in national hospitals in Peru. Methods: A secondary data analysis was carried out from a previous cross-sectional study performed in children with Acute Respiratory Infections from 2009 to 2012 and from 2018 to 2020. All samples have been analyzed through the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for RSV-A, subsequently they were sequenced, aligned and finally the genotype of each one was determined. Results: A total of 211 RSV-A positive samples were studied, of which 93 samples were positive to sequencing and the most frequent genotype found by phylogenetic study was ON1, with 86.79% of cases and NA1 with 13.21%. of the cases. Conclusions: There was a high prevalence of RSV-A of the ON1 genotype in the studied environment. RSV-A cases, in Peru, prevalence was higher in the months of march and june.
