Baby-led Weaning (BLW) is defined as a method of complementary feeding where food is prepared in such a way that the baby can eat the food without adult intervention. The objective of this exploratory systematic review was to analyze and determine the impact of the BLW method on nutritional health in babies from 6 to 12 months. A bibliographic search was carried out in Pubmed, Web of Science, Scopus and SciELO, the following inclusion criteria were used: year of publication (2001-2020), language (English, Spanish and Portuguese), key terms (iron, complementary feeding, and nutritional status) and types of papers [primary research articles, BLW method studies, and Baby-Led Introduction to SolidS (BLISS)]. The steps established in the list described in the PRISMA extension for exploratory systematic reviews were followed. After the inclusion/exclusion process, six works were included for analysis (four related to the iron level and weight of the baby and five related to the benefits and risks of BLW). Conclusions: there is no difference in the intake and level of iron in babies who follow the BLW and the traditional method. BLW could serve as a protector against overweight and obesity. The benefits of the BLW method are less food selectivity, positive attitude, and predisposition to try food, greater confidence and promotes learning. The risk of suffocation in BLW babies is not greater compared to those who follow the traditional method. There is no evidence of zinc deficiency and BLW.
