The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact with dimensions still unknown in superior education, inducing an imprint of acquisition of new media skills in an accelerated manner. In this process different strategies have been taken by the public and private sector, to overcome the situation. This research seeks to explore the relationship between higher education teachers and the use of virtual education platforms, focusing particularly on their perceptions of the training and learning processes that they have undergone in an accelerated manner due to the urgency the pandemic posed to generate answers. The main objective is to analyze the preparation of higher education teachers for virtual education through virtual education platforms. To this end, 10 semi-structured interviews were conducted with Peruvian public and private higher education teachers located both in Lima and in regions in the interior of the country. The corresponding interview guide was divided into 3 thematic blocks referring to the media literacy of teachers prior to the pandemic, the use of virtual educational platforms and the development of educational media skills from the state of emergency. The findings point to a clear difference between the two sectors, mainly due to the prior preparation that the private sector had against the public sector, as well as the timely implementation of the platforms and the challenge of connectivity.
