Objective: To determine the association between the consumption of fruits and vegetables and the quality of sleep-in civil engineering students from a private university in Lima. Methodology: Cross-sectional, observational, and analytical study carried out in 574 students of the civil engineering career. To measure sleep quality, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire was used, and for the consumption of fruits and vegetables, a consumption frequency survey was used. Results: Most of the students were men, with a median age of 21 years. 79.3% of the students consumed <5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, while the prevalence of poor sleep quality was 83.3%. The prevalence of poor sleep quality in those university students who consumed five or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day was 3% higher (OR: 1.03, CI: 0.95-1.12) compared to those who consumed less. quantity, although this result was not statistically significant. On the other hand, we found that variables such as the year of study, medical history, psychiatric diagnosis, and migraine were significantly associated with poor sleep quality. Conclusions: No significant association was found between those who consumed less than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily with a poor sleep quality. It is recommended to implement promotional activities focused on improving sleep habits and increasing the consumption of fruits and vegetables among the local university population.
