Education is the main factor in economic growth, because it enables poverty reduction and boosts professional development. Low educational attainment is a barrier that prevents individuals from having equal opportunities in the labor market. In a context where one member of a household decides whether or not to share the benefits of education with other members, shared income is an incentive to transfer new knowledge. In view of this, this paper, by estimating a Heckman selection model, based on data from the National Household Survey (ENAHO), investigates to what extent the positive externalities of intrahousehold education knowledge transmission alter the income of low educated workers in Peru. Emphasis should be placed on areas where low years of education predominate in the country, because the effect of intrahousehold education is likely to be significantly larger on the earnings of less educated individuals in such areas.
