Introduction: Sleep deprivation has been associated with an increase in metabolic diseases such as obesity and, therefore, a higher risk of mortality. Objective: To evaluate the association between sleep duration and caloric intake in Peruvians aged 15 to 65 years. Methodology: Sub-analysis of data from the Latin American Study of Nutrition and Health (ELANS from spanish acronim), conducted in Peruvians aged 15 to 65 years. This study included data obtained only for Peru. Sleep duration was classified as: less than the recommended time, recommended time and greater than the recommended time according to age. The percentage of total energy adequacy and the percentage of energy adequacy from macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) were categorized according to the parameters of the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRI). The percentage of total energy adequacy was classified as low, adequate and high. A bivariate analysis was performed using Chi square, since the variables were categorical. In addition, generalized linear Poisson family models were used to obtain a crude and adjusted prevalence ratios. Results: Data from 1107 people were analyzed. The adjusted analysis of the association between the duration of sleep and the level of adequacy of total energy consumption was associated with an increase of 2% (RPa=1,02, CI95% 1,00 - 1,06 p=0,035) of probabilities that the participants who sleep less than the recommended time present a high percentage of total energy adequacy, compared to participants who slept an adequate number of hours of sleep. Conclusion: An association was found between sleep duration and caloric intake.
