OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to determine if the Clinical Pulmonary Infection Scale (CPIS) is effective as a predictor of mortality in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Hospital III-1 José Cayetano Heredia Piura in 2022. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The research design was retrospective observational diagnostic tests, with a sample of 80 patients with a diagnosis of pneumonia associated with a ventilator hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Hospital III-1 José Cayetano Heredia Piura, for whom the CPIS scale was calculated. within 72 hours of diagnosis. The specificity, sensitivity, and positive and negative predictive value of the diagnostic tests and analysis by the AUC-ROC Curve are considered. It was shown to be significant at p < 0.05. The data were obtained from the IAAS surveillance of the Cayetano Heredia Hospital and the medical records of hospitalized patients who met the selection criteria were reviewed. RESULTS: The sensitivity and specificity of the CPIS scale as a predictor of mortality were 85.7% and 88.9% respectively. The positive and negative predictive value was 85.7% and 88.9% respectively. The area under the ROC curve was 0.87 in predicting mortality. The average CPIS scale score was significantly higher in the deceased group (7.4 ± 1.3) than in the survivors (5.3 ± 1.1). Age ≥ 60 years was common in deceased patients and the male sex predominated in both groups. The most frequently isolated germ was Acinetobacter baumanii. Furthermore, the most frequent comorbidity was arterial hypertension (46.84%). CONCLUSION: The CPIS scale is effective as a predictor of mortality in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia
