An observational, and correlational, and analytical study of cases and controls was carried out from the medical records of patients attended in the outpatient gynecology office of the Hospital Belén de Trujillo between January 2015 and December 2017. The objective of the study was to analyze the association between obesity and the presence of leiomyomas in the study population, for which 272 medical records were recruited, divided into 136 cases and 136 controls, using a non probability sampling. Descriptive and analytical statistics were used, in the latter case by calculating the crude Odds Ratio (OR) and adjusted from logistic regressions with confidence intervals and significance level less than 0.05%. In women with leiomyomas, the weight was 70 kg (IR: 48-100) and the height was 1.55 m (IR: 1.45-1.75), with the average BMI = 28.89 ± 4.11; 41.94% (n = 26) were obese and 58% (n = 36) did not present obesity. Among other variables considered, 14.52% (n = 9) had a family history of leiomyoma; and 95.16% (n = 59) were multiparous and 3.23% (n = 2) were nulliparous; and 67.74% (n = 42) of urban origin; and 20.97% (n = 13) with diabetes mellitus; and 12.9% (n = 8) with arterial hypertension and median age: 45 years (IR: 27-60, ORa = 1.07, CI: 1.03-1.11 and p = 0.001). We concluded that, in patients at Hospital Belén de Trujillo, obesity is not a factor associated with uterine leiomyomas and that age is a factor that can influence their development.
