Objective: To determine the level of knowledge about breastfeeding in professionals of the first level of health care in Piura 2020. Methodology: observational, prospective, cross-sectional, analytical, correlational study. The level of knowledge was assessed using the survey based on The Ten Steps for Breastfeeding, following the guidelines established by WHO. For the descriptive analysis, absolute and relative frequencies will be used and for the survey measures of central tendency and dispersion. Results: 83.30% were female, the average age of the professionals surveyed was 40 years or older, 61.7% came from the Consuelo de Velasco Health Establishment and 38.3% were from the Los Algarrobos Health Center. It was reported that 43.3% professionals had between 1 to 9 years of graduates, while 31.7% had between 20 and more years of graduates. 50% of the professionals surveyed were nurses, 33.3% licensed in obstetrics and 16.7% doctors. Regarding the level of knowledge, it was found that 9.6% of the professionals of the SSE. Los Algarrobos obtained the High level of knowledge, while in the US Consuelo de Velasco, only 4.7%; the average level was predominant in both establishments with 28.6% and 19% for the SSE. Consuelo de Velasco and the USS Los Algarrobos respectively. The Low level was similar in both establishments, reporting 19.1% in the SSE. Consuelo de Velasco and 19% in the SS Los Algarrobos. In the bivariate analysis adjusted for the level of knowledge and the profession, no association was found between the level of knowledge and the profession. Likewise, the relationship between the years of experience and the level of knowledge is shown, at the High level it is noted that the greater the time of experience the knowledge increases (p <0.01). In the same way it was found that at the High level, the greater the time of graduates the knowledge increases. (p <0.01). Conclusion: the level of knowledge of health professionals about breastfeeding is predominantly “regular“, which continues to represent a deficiency in health personnel and the need to implement training policies.
