Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis ( RA ) is a condition, although rare, of high morbidity and difficult control, being able to establish a pattern of adequate treatment with biological is an important part of control treatment. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of rituximab associated with methotrexate against monotherapy with rituximab in the remission of activity in patients with RA. Method: Historical cohort study where 110 clinical histories ( 55 exposed and 55 unexposed ) of patients with RA from the Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray in Trujillo were reviewed during 2019. The relative risk ( RR ) for the bivariate analysis was calculated and performed the multivariate analysis through logistic regression for the analysis of the intervening variables. Results: 78% of patients with combined therapy and 58% of patients with monotherapy presented remission of symptoms. Therapy with rituximab plus MTX is effective in the remission of RA symptoms after adjusting for the intervening variables ( RRa: 3, 95% CI: 1.26 - 7.12 ) . Conclusion: Rituximab associated with methotrexate is effective against monotherapy with rituximab in the remission of activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
