Introduction: those factors academic predispose to a physician to choose a specialty of attention primary. Objective: to assess whether the academic factor is associated with the choice of a specialty of primary care in the Peru. Methods: was an analytical cross-sectional study, having access to the database of the CONAREME of the year 2016, was identified to medical applicants both primary and also hospital care specialties, assessed note test of residency, the order of merit of undergraduate, sex, mode of application and university offering the square. Results: are evaluated 5754 applicants, 66 of medicine family and 5688 of other specialties. In the test of residence note was obtained a rating of 44,41 ± 8.01 points for primary care and other specialties applicants obtained 50,17 ± 9,09 points; with a significance statistics of p < 0.001. With regard to the order of merit in undergraduate, the average in attention primary was 2.02 ± 1.51 points and the of others specialties was of 2.74 ± 1.48 points; finding significance statistics p < 0.001. For the sex is obtained a result of 50% both for men and women p>0.05, it mode free had a 98, 48% in applicants to attention primary and 83, 86% for others specialties with p < 0.01. With regard to the university that offer it square in universities public for attention primary was 36, 36% and in others specialties 59, 04% and p < 0.001. Conclusion: the factor academic if is associated to the choice of a specialty of attention primary.
