Objective: To determine the association between the short and long intergenic period and the presence of autistic spectrum disorders and in the ““Hospital Belen de Trujillo 2010-2016““. Material and methods: An analytical, retrospective study of cases and controls was carried out. 256 pediatric patients attended in the Belen Hospital of Trujillo during the period 2010-2016. Distributed in 128 cases and 128 controls. The variables of the short and long intergenic period were evaluated, as well as possible confounding variables. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi -square and Odds Ratio calculation. Results: 256 patients were evaluated; no significant difference was found for sex, maternal age, paternal age, maternal hypertension, maternal diabetes and cesarean delivery. Significant difference was found for current age and gestational age at birth (p: <0.001, p: 0.014). The short intergenic period and the long intergenic period obtained a significant association with the development of ASD, (OR: 2.45, IC: 1,026-5,871; OR: 2.17 IC: 1,821- 4,379 respectively). The rest of the covariates showed no significant association. Conclusion: The short and long intergenic periods are independent risk factors associated with the development of autistic spectrum disorders with an OR: 2.45 (CI: 1.026-5.871) and OR: 2.17 (CI: 1.821- 4.379) respectively.
