Aiming to determine the incidence and epidemiological characteristics of adverse events during childbirth and postpartum; a descriptive study was conducted, retrospective cross-sectional, in 708 patients with adverse events; for which a record was made semi structured. It was found the incidence was of 6.04 % of adverse events during the three years. The epidemiological characteristics of the patient obstetrical with adverse events were: 52.3 % are 20-30 years; 41.3 % comes from the urban area, the 40.3 % urban/rural and 18.4 % rural area; 63.8 % are cohabiting; 54.1 % have some study of the secondary level. 56.9 % Are primiparas and 43.1 % are multiparous women. The 33.9 % have a history personal pathological prior. According to the frequency of adverse events during childbirth in 2011 was: 193 in 2012 to 168 and in 2013 of 143, during the puerperium in 2011 were: 83 in 2012: 68 and in 2013: 53. The origin of adverse events was: 14.1 % corresponds to the processes of admission, 52.3 % during a procedure, the 22.2 % after the procedure and 5.6 % in hospitalization. The nature of adverse events was: 87.4 % are related to the procedure and the 12.6 % were related to infections associated with health care. (IASS) of the related to the procedure the 63.7 % belongs to the perineal tears, 18.8 per cent to retained placenta, the 7.1 % hemorrhage post partum - uterine atony, the 1.3 % suture dehiscence, the 1.7 % tear of cervix; of the related to the IASS, 4.0 % are surgical wound infection (IHO); 0.7 % infections of episorrafias, the 1.0 % endometritis. The types of adverse events: the 21.1 % were slight; 46.6 % had a moderate level and 32.3 % had a high level. The characteristics of the assistance the 88.8 % of revenues are emergency and a 11.2 % scheduled; according to type of birth a 80.7 % are delivered vaginally and 19.3 % are childbirth cesarean section and the days of stay a 52.7 % share of 2-4 days; a 26.3 per cent are of 5 days to more and 21.0 % are 0- 1day of stay.
