To demonstrate associated risk factors for peripartum hysterectomy emergency patients (HPE) seen at Regional Hospital of Trujillo during the period January 2008 to December 2014. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted an observational, analytical, case-control, which evaluated 66 pregnant women whose pregnancy, childbirth or puerperium were treated at the Department of Obstetrics, which were divided into two groups, study cases (22 patients with hysterectomy) and controls (44 patients without hysterectomy). RESULTS: The mean age of patients in the case group was 28.27 ± 8.21 years and the control patients was 27.80 ± 6.38 years (p > 0.05); gestational age at delivery mean in the case group was 36.09 ± 3.95 weeks and the control group was 38.05 ± 1.75 weeks (p < 0.01). In regard to the factors evaluated in cases and controls the following distribution was observed: The placenta previa (18.18% vs 2.27%, p < 0.05), placenta accrete (31.82% vs 0%: p < 0.001), uterine atony (54.55% vs 4.55%, p < 0.001), uterine rupture (22.73% vs 0%, p < 0.001), DPP (22.72% vs 2.27% , p < 0.05) and fetal macrosomia (9.09% vs 2.27%, p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Risk factors associated with HPE were placenta previa, placenta accrete, uterine atony, uterine rupture and placental abruption.
