To determine the prevalence of calcification of the stylohyoid complex in panoramic radiographic images of patients aged 12 years and more, who are treated at the Maxillofacial Radiological Institute (IRM) in the city of Trujillo during the year 2021. Material and methods: Retrospective and observational study; composed of 366 panoramic radiographic images. The MacDonald Jankowski classification was used, which establishes that the appearance can be Normal (Patterns A-D), Elongated (Pattern E), Calcified (Pattern F-K) and Not detectable (Pattern L). The Kappa index was used to assess the reliability with a specialist radiologist and an almost perfect agreement was obtained (k: 0.93). For the analysis, descriptive statistics and the chi- square test were used at a 95% confidence interval. Results: 109 images with calcification of the stylohyoid complex were found, of which 12.02% had an elongated appearance and 17.76% had a calcified type. Bilateral calcification was predominant with 56.88% and the age group over 60 years obtained the highest percentage with 41.70%. The calcification of the complex was more common in males (p=0.0170) Conclusions: The prevalence of calcification of the stylohyoid complex was 29.78%. According to the radiographic appearance, 12.02% of the elongated type and 17.76% of the calcified type were found. Calcification was predominantly bilateral; in the older adult age group (60 years and more) and was significantly more common in males.
