Objective: Determine if the treatment of Prednisone + Methotrexate + Azathioprine is more effective than the treatment of Prednisone + Methotrexate in patients with Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis. Material and methods: An analytical observational study, “retrospective cohort“ was carried out in the rheumatology clinic of the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital. 79 patients were included, divided into two groups: Cohort 1: Prednisone + Methotrexate + Azathioprine (27 patients) and Cohort 2: Prednisone + Methotrexate (52 patients). For the analysis, the chi-square and t student tests were used. The effectiveness was evaluated through the improvement in the physical examination in two out of three points (elimination of skin lesions, elimination of the tumor, and disappearance of pain), as well as the improvement in CRP and ESR values. Results: The Prednisone + Methotrexate + Azathioprine treatment presented an effectiveness of 92.6% compared to the Prednisone + Methotrexate treatment that had an effectiveness of 63.5%, in the evaluation of the effectiveness in the physical examination with a value of p=0.005, demonstrating a statistically significant difference. In addition, no significant differences were found between the groups regarding the improvement of the CRP and ESR values. Conclusion: Treatment with Prednisone + Methotrexate + Azathioprine is more effective than treatment with Prednisone + Methotrexate in patients with Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis in the physical examination but not in improving CRP and ESR values.
