To demonstrate that the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is useful as a marker of mortality in patients with liver cirrhosis (LC). Method: Diagnostic test study, which included 138 patients hospitalized for decompensated LC at the Hospital Belén de Trujillo, 2017-2019; in whom the INL was calculated at hospital admission and their in-hospital mortality was evaluated. The cut-off point, area under the ROC curve, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of INL were determined. Results: The 32.6% (45 patients) had died for LC, whose average age was 65.47 years and made up of 53.3% males. Child-Pugh class C was associated with higher mortality (p<0.001), as well as having been hospitalized for hepatic encephalopathy (p=0.001) or upper gastrointestinal bleeding (p=0.015). The NLR cut-off point was 3.7 (area under the curve of 0.775, p<0.001), which presented a sensitivity of 86.7%, specificity of 58.1%, PPV of 50% and NPV of 90% as a marker of LC mortality. Conclusions: the NLR is useful as a marker of mortality in patients with liver cirrhosi
