To determine the relationship between early maladaptive schemes and stress coping strategies in human medicine students at the Antenor Orrego Private University, both in general and in different styles, such as those directed at the problem, at the emotion or avoidance of the problem. Material and methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was carried out on 370 human medicine students of the first 3 years of undergraduate studies at the Antenor Orrego Private University. The YSQ-L2 questionnaires were used to evaluate maladaptive schemes and the COPE-28 to evaluate stress coping strategies, both validated on a population similar to the one studied. The correlation between these variables was evaluated using the coefficient of Spearman's correlation. Results: A statistically significant determination was evidenced between early maladaptive schemes and the three dimensions of coping strategies for stress, presenting a moderate strength of association between all variables. The predominant sex in the majority of schemes and strategies was the female sex when comparing both schemes and strategies within the study cycles, a significant difference was evidenced in emotional inhibition, Active Coping, Activity planning, Search for emotional support, Acceptance and Relief. In the same way, it was obtained that when comparing the study variables between the years of the participants, a significant difference was found in Inflexible Standards II, Law, Search for instrumental support and Relief. Conclusions: Maladaptive schemes are positively and directly correlated with stress coping strategies in human medicine students at Antenor Orrego Private University
