The main objective of this evaluation was to analyze the operation of two post-larvae intensive production systems of Macrobrachium rosenbergii of two commercial hatcheries. The hatchery of Granja Acuícola Camaronera Las Palmas (northern jungle), which works with an recirculation aquaculture system, has an installed capacity to produce 600 000 monthly postlarvae, and the Aqua Prawn hatchery (central coast), which works with a static system, it has an installed capacity to produce 100 000 postlarvas per month; both hatcheries work in different operating and handling conditions. During a productive cycle, water quality data and production parameters were recorded: survival, larval stage index (LSI), larval quality and productive performance. To determine the latter, data referring to the expenditure of electric energy, live food (brine shrimp) and balanced, and conditioning of culture water (seawater or water reconstituted with commercial salts) were taken. It was determined that the water quality in both hatcheries was within the optimal ranges for the cultivation of this species, with the exception of nitrite levels (up to 6 ppm) reached in the static system. In both farms the first postlarvae appeared at 18 days and finished their larval culture at 22 days. For the recirculation system and the static system the following results were obtained, the average survival was 50 and 38 percent, the LSI at the time of harvest was 11.7 and 11.5, and the degree of larval quality obtained the qualifier of “Good“ in both hatcheries. The productive yield was expressed as productive indices, and according to these calculated indices, the recirculation system uses food and crop water inputs better, while the static system uses electrical energy input better.
