Series and films dubbed in Latin American Spanish have been analyzed. However, the characterization of neutral Spanish covers a reduced number of films and series, making its systematicity not so extensive. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to characterize Latin American neutral Spanish through Hatim and Mason’s discursive paradigm (1995). In that manner, the Shrek saga, the Ice Age saga, and the Mulan dilogy are the objects of this study. These movies have characteristics in common such as their versions in Latin American neutral Spanish by Mexican dubbing studios and the genre of children’s animated comedy. This study assumes that Latin American neutral Spanish is characterized by features of Mexican Spanish and the adaptation of puns and cultural references. A monolingual analysis will be conducted through content analysis of the dubbed dialogues extracted from the movies. On the other hand, a contrastive textual analysis will be carried out to explore the concept of shift in cases of cultural references.
